Ogre Oatmeal

Monday, October 5, 2009

This meal looked so cool when it was prepared I knew it had to be included in my thirteen Halloween breakfasts. The gruesome effect comes from the candy eyeballs and bits of fruit that give is a "dismembered body parts" feel. Oatmeal is great inspiration to begin with though because it is already kind of squishy and gooey.  This recipe dresses up plain old oatmeal with cinnamon, fruit, and wheat germ to make a tasty and healthy start to your day.

Serves: 4
Start-to-Finish: 15 minutes
Recipe By: Amber Brunson

Ingredients:

3 1/4 cups milk
2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
24 dried apricots
1/2 cup peaches (approx 3 peach halves)
4 TBSP wheat germ
1 tsp cinnamon
4 candy or gummy eyeballs

Directions:

1.  In a saucepan bring milk to just a simmer.
2.  Stir in oats and cook for 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
3.  Remove from heat.
4.  Chop peaches and apricots into bit-size pieces.
5.  Stir peaches, apricots, wheat germ, and cinnamon into oatmeal.
6.  Just before serving add a gummy eyeball into each bowl.
